You are viewing The Village page
Picturesque Steeple Ashton, a conservation village, built by wealthy wool merchants in the 16th century, with many original buildings remaining today, retains the quintessential English Village atmosphere which enchants visitors from home and abroad alike. You will always receive a warm welcome whether it be in the shop, the pub, at a church service or just wandering around the village streets.
The family of Lord Long of Wraxall owned much of the village until the
1930s when the estate was sold. The school, owned by the female line of
the Long family, recently closed, is now home to the community shop. The
Longs Arms pub was originally a coaching inn on the main route between Salisbury
and Bath, thankfully the A36 trunk road which now links these two cities
is far away, The imposing church, known as a pocket cathedral, still dominates
the village today. All making Steeple Ashton the perfect destination for
a relaxing vacation.
