If you are Antique Hunting it’s a Buyers Market. Coachmans Cottage is owned by the Hornsey family who are retired antique dealers.
Antique Buying? Coachmans Cottage, in the beautiful conservation village of Steeple Ashton, is located in West Wiltshire, midway between the City of Bath and Salisbury, with Bradford on Avon, Devizes and Marlborough nearby. A short trip north to Tetbury and if a day trip is on the agenda on into the Cotswolds.
Despite the decline in number of antique shops, this area is rich in places to source that special and individual item. Auction Houses, Antique Shops and Antique Centres abound.
If you are new to collecting antiques and are unsure of what to buy the best advice is to initially spend time (and not money) on learning and getting a “feel” for items by talking to experts in the field and literally handling pieces. Always remember the rather hackneyed, but oh so true phrase “buy what you love”, you will be planning to live with it for some time!
It should be hoped that antiques will hold their value, but in this age of low inflation massive gains are no longer to be made quickly but over the years you will wish to see a profit when re-selling.
